MIND THE GRID
Identity Design / Type Design

Role: Designer / Design Lead
Tools: Illustrator, After Effects, Photoshop
Design Team: Allen Ye, Grace Hughes, Michael Taskin & Jack Hoac

Just a bunch of design students coming together to build a senior exhibit’s identity with the grid in mind for the cool kids on the Chicago grid.

And we named it “Mind the Grid.” This name seeks to reflect the intersection of two concepts that are particularly significant to our design students: the iconic Chicago grid system and the grid layout as an integral principle in graphic design.

Since the exhibit is located at the heart of downtown Chicago, interlaced with a complex public transit’s grid system, the name pays homage to the city’s urban landscape, and its rich architectural heritage. Minding the grid is also part of any design student’s “ritual,” not just using the grid mindlessly, but using it with meticulous attention as well as knowing when to break away from it.
