How do you create an identity that is unapologetically ugly yet beautifully expressive (aka cool) enough for art school students?

Considering that ArtBash is an annual exhibition celebrating every student’s journey throughout their first year at art school, I decided to put myself in the position of an artist when creating this visual identity. In order to encapsulate the students’ spirit and energy, I allowed myself to experiment and put aside certain design conventions, especially when it comes to typography. The letterforms are digitally altered and layered on top of one another, emulating how every student would go through endless explorations and try on multiple practices throughout their first year at art school.
